All Teslas have a large center touchscreen for controls instead of lots of buttons and dials.
Just like when smartphones were introduced, you may hear complaints that buttons are better,
but you rarely hear those complaints from owners.
The advantages of touchscreens far outweigh the disadvantages.
Who complains about their phone not having enough buttons now?
Updates
Tesla improves controls and offers new features regularly through free, automatic software updates.
When they improve autopilot or create new features like sentry mode and dog mode, you don't need to buy a new car to get them.
They give those features to current owners, too.
Apps
The touchscreen lets you open multiple apps at once.
Navigation is always in the background.
You can open apps over it, and also move them out of the way.
The picture below shows the car on the left, navigation in the background, and the media player at the bottom.
Here are some more possibilities:
Leave the camera up while drive for amazing rear-view visibility.
Plug in a USB drive to store dashcam videos from the front and side cameras while you are driving.
Turn on Sentry Mode to store similar videos when you are parked and there is activity nearby.
Use Dog Mode to keep the cabin cool or warm when you leave your pet inside.
Play video games or watch movies (coming soon) while you're waiting in your car.
